There's no place like home
Lens Based Project March 23rd, 2020 Exhibit Text For this piece I was inspired by famous photographers dorothea lange and Henri Cartier-Bresson. Both of these photographers focus on capturing pictures of people and places. For this project, I want to take pictures of communities I grew up in and people I grew up with. Since this year is self identity, I feel it is best to show the people that inspire me everyday and make me who I am. I also want to add pictures of my pets who are so dear to my heart as much as my family and friends are. |
Planning
Just like my inspirations, some of the pictures I captured and edited are grey. The pictures I decided to make grey was for a purpose. To represent them as being older or in the past. To represent them as a memory. I wanted to do this because my communities have shifted as changes happened in my life. Like when I was younger I was always by my grandparents house and grew up in that neighborhood. In the neighborhood was my elementary and middle school memories and parks I would always go to. I also wanted to do photos of my pets and family. This one particular photo of my dog snowball that passed away, I made the photo grey to show that he's a memory and he's no longer here. With the grey photos I've been working on how to capture and bring emotions using the tones of grey.

Then my other photos, I planned for them to be in color to represent that the pictures are my current life. To show vibrant and color and bring emotions of joy. Not only did I want the color to represent the present, but also the future. In a way to show my life is only growing. I really want to convey different events, emotions, and life changes with color and the grey. With color there's so much symbolism I can use. Each hue of color brings different types of emotions and I feel experimenting with them will be fun . I'm kind of just testing each color out and matching them with memories and how I feel about certain areas of my community.
